Daily Prayers for August 17th, 2022

Prayer of Confession:

God of Grace, you provide us light in the darkness. Yet we have days when our world feels like it does not show it. We see darkness but like your light Lord God we do not often understand it. We can see sin in our neighbors, yet we may not see the sin in our own lives. We hear about war, violence, those who steal, and those use others for their own gain. Yet we can think along the lines of pity, shame, at least it was not me or anyone close to me. Like the Pharisee’s prayer being thankful they are not a tax collector. What we don’t see is how our inference or acceptance to tragedy is just as much tragic. Yet in this world Lord God we wonder what we can we truly say or do to show justice and love. We see darkness and we fear that we will continue to perpetuate darkness in the place of honor where your light should be. Lord, we fear ourselves at times. We fear that we only carry the same darkness and there is no light strong enough to give us hope. Hope that we are more than how we see ourselves. Hope of light that the darkness in our lives can change to shadows and where light can and does dwell. We equally don’t see the sin of looking down at ourselves and choosing to deny ourselves our birth right of love, even the one love closest to ourselves that we can freely choose to give ourselves. Loving God forgive us these sins. The ones we know and the ones we do not even consider.  This we pray in your son Jesus Christ name. Amen.
